PS5 Pro vs Gaming PC in 2025: An Honest Comparison

The PS5 Pro closed the gap significantly. But does it close it enough? After months of using both, here's the real answer.

PS5 Pro vs Gaming PC in 2025: An Honest Comparison

I have a gaming PC in my office and a PS5 Pro in my living room. I use both regularly. I'm probably the wrong person to write this comparison because I genuinely like both — but that also means I don't have an axe to grind for either side, which might make me exactly the right person.

What the PS5 Pro Actually Delivers

The PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) upscaling is impressive. Games that struggled to maintain 4K 60fps on the base PS5 now run noticeably more cleanly, with sharper image quality and more stable performance. The GPU upgrade is real — not RTX 4080 real, but meaningful. Exclusive first-party games continue to be the PS5's strongest argument: the first 10 hours of a Sony first-party title still feel like nothing else in gaming.

What a Gaming PC Delivers That the PS5 Can't

Framerates above 60. At 120fps in a well-optimized game, the difference is visceral. Mod support for PC games — particularly for RPGs and strategy games where mods can extend a game's lifespan by years. Backwards compatibility that goes back decades, not just one generation. And keyboard and mouse precision for genres where it genuinely matters.

The Honest Recommendation

If you primarily play story-driven single-player games, don't care about framerates above 60, and want the most convenient gaming experience possible: PS5 Pro. If you play competitive multiplayer, care about high framerates, want mods, or spend significant time at a desk anyway: gaming PC. If you can afford both and have the space: both. They don't compete as much as they complement.
